Peak District, Kinder Plateau

7 hours

Back up on Kinder Scout this weekend for a trip across the plateau from The Downfall to Grindsbrook....hopefully. It has been very dry lately so a safe crossing should be on the cards.

Having taken the same route as last week from the Car park above the Snake Inn we headed for Kinder Downfall.

Looking down towards Hayfield.

Heading up the river bed towards the plateau.

Looking back to Kinder Gates.

These Peat Groughs can be as high/deep as 12 feet or so and as the river bed was quickly disappearing we were soon to be up on the peat.

Once up on the peat we headed for a small cairn which looked like the highest point and had it's own solitary guard today, mind you it was a glorious day for it.

Heading in a sort of South Easterly direction across a short stretch of peaty bog avoiding the damned up bits which looked quite dangerous to us should bring you to the top of Grindsbrook and lead you down to the Southern edge.

Some sort of shelter.

View down Grindsbrook towards Edale. From here we headed East along the edge and cut across to the northern edge and descended down Fairbrook.

From here it's back up through the woods and the car.
