Lake District, Yewbarrow, Red Pike & Pillar from Wasdale Head.

Staying at the NT campsite at Wasdale head with so many options to go for I decided on Pillar via Yewbarrow and Red Pike.

71/2 hours.

Pillar Rock.
Leaving the Campsite with Great Gable and Kirk Fell in view.
A short walk on the road is required to reach the path leading up onto Yewbarrow.
Views of Illgill Head and Wastwater more then make up for this.
On the steep pull up to Yewbarrow.
Work in progress to combat erosion.
Looking down the valley towards Nether Wasdale.
Looking across to Burnmoor Tarn below Scafell which is to the left.
A Hercules Transporter hums up the valley past the Scafells.
Yewbarrow.
T'other end, the top being a long flat wide ridge, Kirk Fell and Great Gable are behind the cairn.
Stirrup Crag, descending this can be a tad tricky.
The descent from Yewbarrow looking from Dore Head.
On the way up to Red Pike looking back to Yewbarrow.
Red Pike summit with the Scafells to the right.
On the way to Scoat Fell.
First views of Ennerdale and Ennerdale Water.
Final descent and ascent to Pillar.
Pillar summit plateau.
Top of Ennerdale, at the end of the track is Black Sail Hut with Haystacks above.
Looking back up to Pillar from the descent to Wasdale Head.
View of Mosedale below Pillar.
Light refreshments available at The Wasdale Head Inn.
The NT campsite at Wasdale Head is approx half a mile walk from the Inn.
