Got the Shuttle Bus up to King's Tree at the top of the Derwent Valley with the intention of following the River Derwent up the valley to it's source near the Barrow Stones on Bleaklow, returning to Fairholmes via Westend Plantation.
6 1/2 hours.
Bleaklow
Slippery Stones about a mile above King's Tree.
The Derwent and the Path on the left heading up the valley.
Almost at the end of the landy track.
The official footpath heads off up to the right towards Shepherds Meeting Stones and onto the ridge but we headed up the valley.
On a very faint path/sheep track.
Looking back. The bonus to walking off path of course is that it is very quiet, we had the place to ourselves.
Up on Bleaklow now.
Battling through the peat.
Grinah Stones center of pic, Barrow Stones are over to the left.
Looking over to Bleaklow Stones.
At Barrow Stones, possibly the remotest part of the Peak District.
Round Hill from Barrow Stones and the exit path down to Westend Plantation to the right.
Sun set and Grinah Stones.
Descent towards Westend Plantation and the road that took us back to Fairholmes in the dark.
