A failed attempt at Wetherlam from Tiberthwaite on a cold and frosty Monday morning.
5 1/2 hrs.
Car Park at Tiberthwaite with a very icy path at the start.
I is going up there to the right, hopefully.
Old quarry, Tiberthwaite and snow capped fells in the distance.
A little higher up the path.
Remains of old mines are are abundant on Wetherlam known as the "hollow mountain".
Looking over to Fairfield.
Langdale Pikes.
From here it I was to attempt Wetherlam Edge simply known as the edge, a steep scrambly section up to the summit and this how far I ventured before turning back due to the amount of ice on the rock, up to 2" thick in places.
So onto plan B, back down Birk fell Man and Hawk Rig to Tiberthaite Mines whereI dcided to explore the base of Wetherlam.
Wetherlam Mines.
On the path to Coniston looking back.
Off path now and evidence of more ruins.
Old Man of Coniston coming into view.
Coniston Moor.
Better view of The old Man of Coniston.
Wetherlam is up there, too late for today though.
Time to head down to the path that will take me back to Tiberthwaite and the car.
Here we are, very icy, care needed.
Last pic of an old quarry before reaching the car and heading off for home and shopping for....
Crampons.
