Lake District, Scafell Pike, Great End and Bowfell from Great Langdale.

The intention was to just set off and see where I finished up, always a good plan. After parking up at the NT car park in Great Langdale I headed off along the road towards Mickleden and the heat was already beginning to pick up at 9am.

9hrs.

Scafell Pike summit as busy as ever.
Start of the walk heading for Mickleden from the NT car park.
The path takes you up Rossett Ghyll.
Looking back to Great Langdale with The Langdale Pikes to the left.
At Angle Tarn.
A spot of lunch was had here at the unnamed tarn.
At the shelter at Esk Hause.
Passing Great End.
Approaching Broad Crag with the first view of Scafell Pike summit.
Looking down Little Narrowcove into Eskdale.
The final stiff climb to Scafell Pike.
Scafell Pike and lots of people, I didn't hang about.
Heading back now towards Broad Crag.
View down to Wasdale Head with Lingmell center photo.
Looking back to Scafell Pike from Broad Crag.
On Great End looking back to Scafell Pike.
Coming down off Great End I met this guy, Phil Martin Hall and his two companions on their way up to Scafell Pike. I gave them directions to Seatoller earlier in the day.

Phil's Odyssey

Cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End

via Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike , Snowdon and Pen-Y-Fan

On Sunday 7th July Phil Martin Hall will set off from John O'Groats to cycle all the way to Lands End, climbing a few 'obstacles' along the way. His back up team of Andrew and Richy will be with him all the way. Weather and traffic permitting they will be cruising into Lands End 891 miles later on Saturday 20th July.
More info here about this Challenge and the Warrior Programme.
The Warrior Programme runs residential programmes in London, SW and NW for Veterans. The programme is ideally suited to individuals who are: not fulfilling their potential, stuck, frustrated, angry, guilty, unsure, lacking in confidence, struggling with the transition post operations, in civie street or returning to 'normality'.

Wishing them well I continued on my way, upon reaching Angle Tarn I decided to head onto Bowfell to look for the climbers traverse.
View down to Langdale from Hanging Knotts on bowfell.
The climbers traverse path can be seen at the bottom of the scree slope center picture but to get that point looked a tad tricky and scrambly and after a tiring day I decided to just go to the summit of Bowfell and call it a day at that before descending back to Great Langdale.
The Scafells from Bowfell.
The Great Slab on Bowfell.
Coming off Bowfell approaching Three Tarns below Crinckle Crags.
Heading down the band now looking across to Pike o Blisco.
Langdale Pikes.
Approaching Stool End Farm where I had a bit of a dizzy spell due to salt depletion because of excess sweating in the heat. It soon passed but prompted me to take precautions for when I next spend a long day out on the hill on a hot day.

Some good info on Hydration here on http://www.walkingforum.co.uk.
Horses.
Time for a shandy at Wainwright's Inn in Chapel Style before returning to the campsite.
